The New Year is likely to bring a bid to open La Grange's first bed-and-breakfast, Patrick Benjamin, the village's community development director, said today.
Benjamin said he has had discussions, as recently as last week, with individuals who are interested in offering overnight accommodations at an undisclosed residential property on S La Grange Rd in the historic district.
Because the village zoning code would have to be amended to allow a B&B to operate in a residential neighborhood, a public hearing before the village plan commission would be required, Benjamin said.
An application from the property's owners must be filed by Jan. 7 to be considered at the plan commission's February meeting, he said.
Village officials are intrigued by the idea of having overnight accommodations available to visitors, Benjamin said. It has been several years since the village had a hotel.
